Hi everyone, I've been trying to add subtitles BELOW the video area, not just at the bottom inside the video area.
I mean, I want to go from this:

Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

Add black below the video and put the subs in that. The AviSynth AddBorders command is one way. It requires reencoding, of course.
-
The downside in doing that is you will have to add black bars to the sides if you are going to author that, otherwise you will have black bars on the sides no matter what if you watch it in full screen.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
If your movie is AR 2:35 or 2.39 and you add srt or ass subtitles, they will be displayed in the black area below the movie.
No reencode is needed.
Can be done by clever FFmpeg-GUI. -
Thank you, Ygramul, it worked, but something unexpected happened: the FF changed and the output video was trimmed at the rigth border.

The left is the original AVI video, the right is the MP4 output video, I choosed 12 bit H.265 encoding
Maybe if I use Handbrake instead, it'd fix it, maybe not.
