Capturing VHS using VSDC video capture

Has anyone used a programme called VSDC and had any issues capturing analogue video from a VHS source?. I've different updates of this programme and all produce poor capturing. Using the WMV setting on recording it results in a strange .asf format and the image quality is rather poor and pixelated. And also there is no sound recorded. At the moment I'm having to use Virtualdub, and although it's OK it is annoying that I have to record about 30 mins or so at a time, otherwise I get audio sync issues; the file size isn't a big deal as Handbrake is useful for encoding.
