  1. So, apparently I don't have enough of my own things going wonky, I decided to see if I can help my neighbor with his problem:

His sony slv-675hf is only playing VHS tapes back in black and white. He hasn't used it in two years. I checked his connections and then hooked it up to a portable TV I have and same issue. The quality of the black and white and audio is excellent BTW. I gave the heads a really good cleaning, some gunk came off, but not much; still no color, but the B&W got sharper.
So, is he looking at a head issue or an electronics issue, before I take him over to Goodwill to buy someone elses used VCR?

    Thanks,

Are you sure it's not an issue with PAL-format video?

  3. Yea, everything is NTSC, tapes (tried several), VCR and TVs.
I should also note that this unit does not have a black and white output setting.
