  1. I'd like to download the second video below (so that I can view it offline with VLC). Can someone assist?

    jwplayer('jwplayer600').setup({width: "100%",height: "100%",playlist: [{image: "/img/thumb/preview-130929-webword_thumb2.jpg/height:404/width:720/crop:true/zoom:fit",file: "http://wpc.866f.edgecastcdn.net/03866F/greyback/yourtrinity/jw-online-giving_,2500,1500,580,265,.mp4.m3u8"},{image: "/img/thumb/preview-130929-webword_thumb2.jpg/height:404/width:720/crop:true/zoom:fit", file: "http://wpc.866f.edgecastcdn.net/03866F/greyback/yourtrinity/130929-webword_,2500,1500,580,265,.mp4.m3u8"}],

The video can be found here: http://tfc.org/sermon/message:the-perfect-storm

  2. ffmpeg can download it with the following command line:

    Code:
    ffmpeg -i "http://wpc.866f.edgecastcdn.net/03866F/greyback/yourtrinity/130929-webword_,2500,1500,580,265,.mp4.m3u8" Vid.ts

  3. Seems like it's working. Will VLC play this .ts file?

Yes. That doesn't seem to be the best version of the video though. The bitrate is pretty low, less than 1000 kbps.

The video on the site seems to be high quality. Is there something else I can do with ffmpeg to ensure the highest quality?

Keep the original quality instead of converting it.
    Code:
    ffmpeg -i "http://wpc.866f.edgecastcdn.net/03866F/greyback/yourtrinity/130929-webword_,2500,1500,580,265,.mp4.m3u8" -c copy -bsf:a aac_adtstoasc 130929-webword.mkv

  9. Ah, didn't realize my command line was reencoding. Why the "-bsf:a aac_adtstoasc"? It seems to work without it.

Using these commands, the video quality is MUCH better. The audio, however, seems a bit slowed. Any idea why?

  11. That's probably a player problem on your end. Try muxing into MP4 instead of MKV. Change the .MKV at the end of the command line to .MP4.

I'll try that. By the way, how would it be a player problem? I'm just curious to know what method ffmpeg is using and what player is involved. Sorry to sound like a newb.

  13. "-c copy" tells ffmpeg not to convert the incoming video and audio, just to repackage it into the specified container.

Different players have different kinds of problems with different codecs and containers.

  14. Thanks again!

By the way, using the following worked (excellent video AND audio):

    Code:
    ffmpeg -i "http://wpc.866f.edgecastcdn.net/03866F/greyback/yourtrinity/130929-webword_,2500,1500,580,265,.mp4.m3u8" -c copy 130929-webword.mkv

I have previously downloaded 2 videos with replay media catcher 5. For some reason when I try to download these, the connection becomes unstable and fails. If anyone knows another method it would be very grateful.

    Bitrate ~ 2500 - 3500
    Size: ~ 1GB

I tried also with GetFLV but the quality is much worse.

    Thanks

It looks like they are using some encrypted key.reg file for securing so if anyone can crack this out would be helpful.

  28. I tried to download a video from some website using Internet Download Manager, and apparently the stream was protected so the IDM throw me message "IDM cannot download this protected stream.", so i copied the m3u8 URL IDMan caught and copied to FFMpeg command line, not expecting much. It worked!
I must say i was kinda underestimating FF for being a free software originally not even made for Windows, now i see its strong power.
