My downloads keep failing with an error message like this:

40.3% of 3.44GiB at 399.36KiB/s ETA 01:29:54ERROR: unable to download video data: [SSL: DECRYPTION_FAILED_OR_BAD_RECORD_MAC] decryption failed or bad record mac (_ssl.c:1748)
    PS C:\WINDOWS\system32>

and I find I just have to restart the download again and again until I eventually get the whole thing.

Youtube-dl does continue from where it left off.

How can I get it to do the retrying itself?

This error is most common when you're behind a VPN or proxy,if so,try changing location.
I'm also shooting in dark here, does it help you if you add --no-check-certiicate to the command?

What are you trying to download? (the url). FFMPEG does have keep-connection-alive thing.

I just changed the vpn to latvia

    the url is https://youtu.be/ZQ_fz9EW5Iw?t=71

i didn't think to put the nocheck in, next time it stops i'll do that...

p.s. was thinking if youtube-dl doesn't have a switch for it then perhaps I should put it in a batch file in a loop somehow?

See if adding --retries infinite and/or --socket-timeout 1 help in any way

Latvia fixed it. Download completed okay.

Thanks for the suggestions. Next time I'm downloading and run into that hassle I will try them out. What's the point of the ffmpeg thing? I thought youtube-dl used ffmpeg by default, no?
