  1. Hello, I got a Single VOB file (No DVD) with aac-Audio.
Now I got the same Audio as lossless PCM (FLAC) Audio.
Is there now a simple way to replace the aac-Audio from the VOB with the lossless Audio?
    Output should still be VOB.

    Thanks for any help!

    Yes I confused.
The VOB currently has ac3 and I now want it to have PCM.

You must convert your pcm in pcm 16bit big endian (pcm_s16be).
Use clever FFmpeg-GUI to convert and to mux.

    I'll try that.

Before proceeding: if you intend to put the result back on DVD, be mindful of your combined bitrate so that you do not go over the spec legal limit. That is VERY OFTEN the reason that AC3 is used in the first place, as the majority of the bitbudget is usually devoted to the video.

Which is it? FLAC and PCM are not the same. According to the DVD spec, PCM, which is uncompressed digital audio, is allowed in VOB files. However, FLAC, which is a type of losslessly compressed digital audio, isn't permitted by the DVD spec.

Yes, and what makes that more obvious is that dvd-video spec was developed 5 years before flac, and the spec had no real revisions after it was finalized, so there's no way the dvd folks could have known, prepared for, or even imagined the common usage of flac in modern scenarios.

Is this for one of those idiotic music video trading sites?
VOB files are NOT better than the original MPEG2 video files.

VOB (unsplitted or smaller than 1 GB) and MPG are the same, except that VOB has nav-packs for DVD authoring which are not needed when played back as a stand-alone file.

VOB tends to have a better reputation in some parts of the web as it usually implies DVD quality, whereas "MPG" can be anything between VCD to SVCD to DVD. But technically, VOB should only be used in a DVD structure, not as a stand-alone file.

I'd love to know how that happened...
