  1. I've scoured the internet looking for a way to either play or convert some .VAC files. My friend needs to transcribe audio recordings from a correctional institution and the disc contains .VAC files. VLC, which plays basically everything, doesn't work and Ive found no audio conversion software that says it supports that file extension.

If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

    Thanks

If you can provide a small sample, maybe I can add support for VAC in TAC. I mean, if FFMpeg can decode it.

  7. This is a duplicate post but since the topic is identical:

    Hello,

I've been asked to help figure out how to listen to .VAC files. In my research I came across this posting. Just wondering if anybody has figured out how to play these without the built in player? I couldn't get the included player to actually play the files though it seemed to load and work OK.

    Thanks for any thoughts.

    What I know:

    Files are circa 2006
created by jail phone call recording software
Company was Value Added Communications, Inc. NOW a wholly owned subsidiary of Global Tel*Link Corporation (GTL).
I reached out to tech support and so far haven't heard back.
I have a disc with what appears to be a player that can install codecs and whatnot but no luck on 2 windows XP machines and 1 windows Vista.
No luck importing as raw data into Adobe Audition.
Best luck (not pure static) was importing as GSM 6.10 format but have no idea what VAC, inc would have used for the .vac files
On the CD are the following files:

you really should have started your own thread. but looking at the list off the disc - since one is an encryption program and another is a decryption program is a fairly easy assumption that the files need a password key to be unlocked and decrypted. other than that if they used the lame encoder listed they would be mp3s.

  11. For anyone like me that stumbles upon this post:

The good folks at www.GTL.Net have already developed a .vac to .wav converter. Their tech support was very friendly and helpful.

    Problem Solved.

    Good Luck
