Use DVD2OneX to split your unencrypted movie at the layer break, then burn the two pieces on two discs.

What kind of file did you download? If it is mpeg you can use the splitting function in MPEG2 Works to break it into two files. If it is a format that QuickTime Pro can edit you can use it to cut and save two files from the same video. Then you need an application such as Toast 6 or Sizzle to author your DVD.

It's been awhile since I had one of those files, but as I recall this will work. Drag the video to the Toast Video window. Click Edit. In the window that appears click Video. You'll see the first frame of your video and a scroll bar below. Drag the triangle marker at the right end toward the middle where you want the movie to break. Now burn that half to DVD. When it is done, drag the right triangle marker to the far right and the left marker to the middle point you chose. Burn the second DVD.

in all honesty, the non doctored .avi should split perfectly with ffmpegx. you can then watch non doctored .avi's with Video Lan Client or if you like can doctor up both of the splits so you can watch them in quicktime.

This is confusing because you say you want a dvd on 2 disks but then you talk about .avi files.

Thanks everyone now it works fine but my cube with 450mhz is a
bit slow for this, would it help to put in som more ram memory
or is it just a waist of money?
I got 832mb, max is 1,5gb, would it make any difference?

More RAM won't help. Reducing the size of the playback window may be helpful. What application are you using to play the DVD? Did you have the same problem when you played the .AVI?

It depends what you mean by "slow" A 667Mhz G4 takes about 12 hours to encode a 90 min DVD, on your cube it's probably going to be 18 hours. Is it taking longer than this for you?

  13. How exactly do you split a DVD (with VIDEO_TS Folder) onto two discs? I want to back up a movie I bought without any loss of quality and DTS soundtrack

    1. rip your movie over to your HD with MTR
    2. open DVD2ONE, where it says COPY choose JOIN
    3. you should see a window pop up on the right hand side. there are two options you can choose, one of them being CELL/CHAPTER/LAYER

clicking that, assuming you have the main title selected in the main dvd2one window, you will see that the movie has a layer 1 and a layer2

select all of layer one, and let dvd2one process that as 1 video_ts folder

repeat and then select all of layer 2 and let dvd2one process that as a 2nd video_ts folder

burn and you now have the movie in full quality split over 2 disks.

    make since?

This is on a Mac instructions correct?
I do not see the option for "where it says COPY choose JOIN" ?
    Is DVD2oneX different than DVD2ONE?

    TIA

Don't use Join mode, you can use Movie Only mode and do that thing with the Cells/Chapters/Layers, in layer mode, and extract one layer at a time. DVD2OneX is the MacOS X version of DVD2One.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."
