    I have an .ass subtitle file that has two languages within. The text are the same times, just one language is Japanese and the other is English. I would like to extract only the English into a separate .srt.

    Any help?

  2. Are they using the same style or ..? Perhaps attach the .ass to a post.

  4. The Japanese seems to be limited to lines using the "PP-OP1-RO" or "PP-ED1-RO" styles. Just delete those. E.g. in Aegisub "Subtitle"->"Select Lines", "Contains" "-RO" in "Field" "Styles". Then hit ctrl+del. With another copy of the file do the inverse.

    Or simply use a text editor, those parts seem to be continuous anyways so it is easy to do even by hand.

    In the end export in Aegisub using File->Export Subtitles and select .srt format.

  6. Hmm, I see. I don't know how to do that solely in Aegisub (probably there is a way but complicated).

    I would:
    In Aegisub:
    1. First delete all comments (similar to post #4, just let the search field empty but tick only "comments")
    2. Then ctrl+a -> Automation->Strip tags
    3. Delete the "-RO" lines as explained in post #4
    4. Save as "temp.ass"
    In SubtitleEdit:
    5. Open "temp.ass".
    6. Tools->Sort by->Start time
    7. Tools->Merge lines with same text
    8. Save as srt

  9. 1. Un-tick "Dialogues" so only comments are selected
    2. Choose "Set selection" at the bottom. You probably already have all lines marked so no lines can be added to the selection anymore. Either that or your file has no comments.

    yes, I was working on a different subtitle...ughhh... I am trying it now with the correct subtitle. Thank you. I will follow up later with results. In the video, after I merge lines with same text, you will notice the lines of subtitles is different from yours. You will also see I can choose the same selection again, "merge lines with same text, and more show up. Either way, I am not getting what you are getting.

    Thank you for noticing that. Now I am getting exactly what you are getting. I did notice though, your file and the new one I did still had some errors. Did you notice this
    HTML Code:
    21
    00:03:12,210 --> 00:03:12,250
    A

    22
    00:03:12,210 --> 00:03:12,250
    Inspector

    23
    00:03:12,250 --> 00:03:12,290
    A

    24
    00:03:12,250 --> 00:03:12,290
    Inspector

    25
    00:03:12,290 --> 00:03:12,330
    A

    26
    00:03:12,290 --> 00:03:12,330
    Inspector

    27
    00:03:12,330 --> 00:03:14,420
    A

    28
    00:03:14,380 --> 00:03:14,420
    Inspector

  13. It goes away if you do the merging twice, i.e.:
    6. Tools->Merge lines with same text
    7. Tools->Sort by->Start time
    8. Tools->Merge lines with same text
    9. Save as srt

    But also it doesn't make sense to have "Inspector" and "A" two separate events. So now you need to merge with same time as well.

    Will this work on every episode? I'm not very confident about this whole process. Especially if you have these signs and dialogue showing up at the same time. "A Inspector" also doesn't make sense to me. It's supposed to be something else, I guess?
    In Aegisub you could select all lines with a style containing "Sign" to review them manually. But it relies on them being in a separate style to begin with ...

    Maybe some manual work will always be required. Or maybe SubtitleEdit author can offer some hints (I pinged him).
