Hello everybody,
I’m new to the forums so thanks in advance for trying to help me out.
I recently bought a new NUC for 2160p playback (no HDR). On my old NUC I played 1080p media with no problems whatsoever. The new NUC is a different story though.
Here are my settings/setup,
Hardware:
- Philips 66PUS6401 (60hz UHD HDR panel)
- Intel NUC7CJYH2 (J4005 - UHD 600 integrated graphics)
- No AVR in between
Software:
- Windows 10 Professional
- K-Lite standard
- MPC-HC
- MADVR
My television supports the following formats 2160p24 – 2160p25 – 2160p30 – 2160p50 – 2160p60.
I had to enable ‘Ultra HD’ in the settings menu for HDMI 1 and 2 to support 2160p, but no problems there.
The NUC sends 2160 at 60hz to the television and in Windows desktop this is running without a problem.
Now the problem is when playing a 2160p movie in MPC-HC I’ve got extreme judder. I tried several vids with several frame rates (23.976 - 29.97 - 59.94) al showing the same problem.
Playing 1080p content (with a 2160p desktop resolution) also gives me judder although not as much as 2160p content.
When I disable ‘Ultra HD’ on the television and connect the NUC and television using 1080p60 I can play 1080p content without judder (minimal and acceptable since it is a 60hz display).
So the following occurs,
- NUC sends 1080p60 – TV receives 1080p60 – Content 1080p 23.976 (24p) – No judder
- NUC sends 1080p60 – TV receives 1080p60 – Content 2160p 23.976 (24p) (not logical, but just for testing) – No judder
- NUC sends 2160p60 – TV receives 2160p60 – Content 1080p 23.976 (24p) – Judder
- NUC sends 2160p60 – TV receives 2160p60 – Content 2160p 23.976 (24p) – Extreme judder
Strangest thing is that native 60p (59.94) demo clips gives me not only judder, but also pauses, skips, audio out of sync, it simply runs worst of all formats. It looks like software decoding with weak hardware.
It looks like the problem lies in the 2160p connection, but like said, the desktop runs fine at this resolution.
Now let’s say the TV is terrible at 3:2 pulldown (guess not because it works fine with a 1080p connection). I used MADVR and gave in the resolutions my TV supports (2160p24 – 2160p25 – 2160p30 – 2160p50 – 2160p60). The TV input switches to 24p when playing a 24p vid but I still get insane judder.
Last I tried to play the same vid with Kodi, and guess what. No judder. Everything is smooth as expected.
I don’t want to use Kodi and would really prefer to keep using MPC-HC, so I hope anyone can point me in the right direction to solve this strange issue.
Thanks again people!!!

Find a way to instruct the player to utilize the hardware acceleration capability.

If you let madVR output 2160p instead of 1080p it may result in more GPU power required. Add an empty folder "ShowRenderSteps" within the madvr folder, during playback press ctrl+j to activate madvr OSD and make a screenshot (post it here). Maybe you need to create a different profile for 2160p output to reduce stress on the GPU.
Native or copy-back? -
{{Prior information deleted because I did a clean Windows install to exclude codec conflicts}}
Ok, so I did a clean install of Windows and installed all updates. Updated all drivers using device manager (no Intel graphic bs installed) and installed only PotPlayer.
Things are looking a bit brighter since the framedrops are minimal now (still have serious judder though).
As you can see in the screens below the problem is the FPS being outputed or displayed (not exactly sure what the fps in red is referring to) is different from the source fps (23.976 in screen 1 and 59.94 in screen 2).
Could anybody identify the possible cause for this based on the info in the screens?
Thanks guys!!!
