A desktop configuration is better for video editing and gaming so the best laptop is one that has the better features of a desktop.

For editing that would be a fast CPU, provision for a second internal drive (or eSATA for external) and a display card the supports PurevideoHD or AVIVO HD and has DVI-I and or HDMI and S/PDIF out.

For gaming you want a gaming oriented display chipset.

It really depends on what "editing" is. Some editing is easy, some need tons of CPU.

It's like asking "what car is best for driving".
Driving where? Highway, NASCAR, under water, up the mountain side, twice a week to church only?

A minimal configuration might be a Dell studio. Most have eSATA for an external SATA capture drive and you can get i5 or i7 CPU models.
Get the fastest CPU you can afford.

Do they have the eSATA connector? Also essential for me is an IEEE-1394 port and Express card slot.

Also nice would be USB 3.
