    HI,
I got a Samsung DVD-HR756 from my uncle from germany. I live now in tunisia.
the zone of the dvd is 2.
I tried many dvds but in vein! I have most dvds, original coming from england!
when i insert the dvd, it seems like reading and after a while it says "can read or write the disk. please check your disk".
IF i put a normal cd it works, if i put an audio cd it works as well.
i bought a blank dvd and burned few things on it but the same thing!

it seems that the Samsung DVD-HR756 doesn't read any dvd!!!

I tried the hack to turned from zone 2 to free-zone but that didn't work for unknown reasons although i followed all procedures! it is true that it was for Samsung DVD-HR753 but it is not that difference as they are together 53-55-56 of the same family.

    any help!!!

  3. Agree. The unit has a major design flaw according to net reports: the optical unit probably needs replacing.

So if i UNderstand well, the lens needs to be replaced?
Although it works with cd or audio cds; it won't with dvds, isn't it?
I thought it is something to do with zones
it is true it is an old dvd, it dates back to 2007, but it i sill good in my view a dvd-rw with 250GB of disk

i tried the hacks but none worked!

CDs and DVDs use a different type of laser so it's actually fairly common for just one to stop working. I've had this happen to me with burners that were going bad.

Sometimes the older DVD recorders used standard burners and it is possible to replace just the burner with specific off the shelf burners. Not always though. Sometimes DVD recorders use custom burning units and you have to find an exact match to replace it. You will have to do a search on your model and see if it is possible for you to replace the burner yourself or not.

Nobody will replace a lens in a DVD burner.
A "hack" will not repair an old, broken machine.
