Where do you get that deal?
If you've got any students in your household, you can get it for even less.

Like Jimmy says, it's even cheaper with student pricing, but you just enter "SWITCH" promo code when ordering. You don't even have to provide proof of a previous editing software. Offical list price was $850, but if you look around at 3rd party distributors you can get it for cheaper

Pissed a lot of people off who paid full price

    Yeah, hahaha.

Hey, looks like I missed out on that CS5.5 deal. How tough is it to get a student version activated? I'm schooling myself at home.

  9. Sorry I guess promo is over. I'm sure I mentioned it in several threads at the time.

You can find it at reputable resellers like B&H or videoguys for ~$1150 now, some questionable websites still have it at ~$810, but I don't know if I would risk it

RE: academic pricing - you can check the requirements list

OK, thanks, and I looked at videoguys too. Meh, I need a deep discount to get me motivated and willing to subject my computer to Adobe. Thanks anyway.

Anybody know any deals on Boris Continuum Complete for Vegas?

Oh yeah? Well...my dick's bigger than yours!!

Seriously, this is getting a little rediculous. All the pros I know and work with know what they like and why, and usually stick with them, but are open to ANY tools that do the job well and efficiently. As has been said before, it's about the workflow. This is sometimes constrained by which market you're operating in, and by inter-operability and "house" requirements.

Personally, I've used quite a number of NLEs and here is how I rank them:

    1. AVID MC (my favorite for big, multi-user projects)
    2. Sony Vegas (my favorite for small, single-man projects)
    3. FCP
    4. Adobe Premiere
    5. Newtek Tricaster
    6. GV/Canopus Edius
    7. Media 100
    8. Pinnacle -anything-
(rarely do I use anything beyond the top 4 - which I have my own copies of-, and only by necessity based on the requirements of a particular job)

This doesn't count AE or any other MG or Compositing apps, as those are a different ball of wax, and it doesn't count converters, nor does it count great utilities like AVISynth or Virturaldub, which I use simultaneously alongside those in that list...
