Vizio Soundbar not working with 8-yr-old Samsung TV

I have the red and white AV inputs on my 8 year old Samsung TV.

When I connect the 3.5mm connector from the sound bar to the av on the TV nothing happens. I am using the remote from the sound bar and can turn the soundbar on and off. No sound is coming out of the sound bar though I increase the volume. The sound bar light is showing on but nothing happens.

This Vizio Soundbar does not have a hdmi connector so how can I get the sound bar to work with this TV.

The Model number of the samsung TV is Model LN3D403E40

Looked up your manual
You have digital audio out (optical)
and headphone jack
Those are your only two options, I recommend the digital, if possible
You are doing sound from tv to soundbar?

Just looked at the manual and my first post stands, with the caveat that for digital sound that the tv must be set for pcm
Remember that the sound comes from the tv out to the soundbar.
The connections on the tv you are using, I believe, are for input to the tv

The tv can also be set for dts out if it has that,not dolby digital.

Based on the first post, I would say that the OP was connecting TV input to soundbar input, won't work that way
