Sony Vegas Pro uses MainConcept's MPEG-1 plugin to render video files in PAL VCD format. In the previous versions of Sony Vegas Pro (prior to version 10), the size of a rendered PAL VCD was correct. However, after I upgraded to Sony Vegas Pro 10.0c, I noticed that the same project now creates a PAL VCD output with a size that is too huge. An example is a 75 minute featured video file now renders to 1.2GB (PAL VCD format) in Sony Vegas Pro 10.0c.

Is it a bug in Sony Vegas Pro 10.0c or is there any settings in Sony Vegas Pro 10 that I need to configure to get the correct output file size?

What is bitrate of the video and audio that it produced? Use Mediainfo to check it.

VCD is a fixed format but Vegas allows you to make changes. Reset to default.

Information reported by MediaInfo is attached. As you can see, the rendered size of 1.17GB is unusually large for a 78 minute PAL VCD video.

vcd is constant bitrate - the size is ONLY determined by the length of time of the video. vegas is correct. you need to cut it to the proper length before rendering.

If I remember correctly, the Spec. for VCD was 1150 video, 224 audio, which resulted in about 10MB per minute.
The video bitrate above is higher (1854), resulting in the large file size.

edDV already gave the solution above:

In other words, reset the Vegas encoding parameters for VCD to their default values (especially bitrate).

I found another similar post on the net and it is quite obvious that there is a bug in Sony Vegas Pro 10:

It's hard to say if it's the same issue or not.
The post at creativecow is talking about video rendered in VBR/mpeg-2.

This post is supposedly about CBR/mpeg-1, since VCD is mpeg-1.
