  1. Need something small and compact. Tried out the elura 50 and was somewhat pleased with the picture quality. Was wondering how much of a jump the picture quality is from the elura 50 to the optura 300?

Before everyone starts comparing the canon models to others i'll tell you I don't have access to many different models. I am leaving on a trip shortly and basically have the option of the elura 50 and optura 300.

Going to be used for my wedding and also various activities on our trip.

    Thanks in advance

  2. Hope this isn't too late.. but the biggest difference between the two would be the size of the image sensors.

    Image sensor: (Optura 300)
    1/3.4" CCD (charge coupled device)
    approx. 2,200,000 pixels
    (approx. 1,230,000 effective pixels-tape)

    Image sensor: (Elura 50)
    1/6" CCD (charge coupled device)
    approx. 680,000 pixels
    (approx. 630,000 effective pixels)

Bigger image sensor=more detail and more light captured. Plus it has a better image stabilizer. A good in between model that I really really like (as far as button placement and ergonomics) is the Optura 20. You can probably find them on clearence now as well.
