  1. I've seen on porn torrent sites an increase in standard definition upscales to 1080p and they look much better than the 480i/p sources. Some are done with just QTGMC and Nnedi3 or Spline Resize and some are done with QTGMC and A.I upscaling. I think they use QTGMC to fix the picture issues and AI upscaling to get better picture when upscaled but I'm not sure.

Anyone have any knowledge about this? Is A.I. upscaling better than upscaling with QTGMC and Nnedi3 or Spline Resize?

I know the upscaling from 480i/p to 1080p in porn videos for example isn't giving HD details. I'm just saying that it looked a lot better than the sources. I suspect this was probably because QTGMC did such a good job of cleaning up the content since porn in the 1990s-2000s was filmed badly with amateur filming mistakes.

I've also seen stuff like this on YouTube which is footage from New York in 1911 upscaled to 4K 60fps. Apparently it was upscaled with neural networks. Anybody know anything about upscaling with neural networks? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZ1OgQL9_Cw

So are there any consumer accessible upscalers that work or should I stick with QTGMC and Nnedi or Spline36Resize?

No, it is something completely different.

Please learn the basics of video technology history, especially interlacing in the era of cathode ray tube TV sets.

  3. AndersonJames ... Yes. I use QTGMC quite effectively for correction and minor upscaling. However, these AI enhancers look interesting. The price of admission is much higher, though the results loo amazing.

This is all garbled nonsense statements and questions.

    - Read what QTGMC is and does.
    - There is no "AI" whatsoever, no such animal exists, and is 100% marketing believed by gullible newbies. In fact, it's pretty much an oxymoron, as "AI" tends to be dumb as can be, more random than not, with kids and chimps able to make better decisions. (Perhaps that will change someday, decades from now, not anytime soon.)

The "AI" tool referenced to here is obviously the cheap tool from Topaz Labs, a company that has NEVER been known for high-end photo/video software or filters. It makes lots and lots of mistakes, quality is nothing special. Merely some basic upsizing and sharpening (often badly done). It's never been a secret than 2x upsizing (ie HD>4K) is passable, and has always been the case. Newbies are awed, but experienced photographers and videographers mostly roll their eyes at how newbies are impressed by it.

  5. QTGMC is not an upscaler (though it does use a neural network to upscale fields to frames internally).

I know QTGMC doesn't upscale, I mean it cleaned up the content so it could be upscaled without causing artifacts by Nnedi or Spline36Resize.

he is not lying.... Video Enhance AI is no bueno.... I've tried it with various video and the results are quite mediocre....

  8. nnedi uses a predictor neural network so if you use nnedi for uscaling you already use a neural network upscaler,....

  9. It's kind of sad that I think I know what content the OP is referring to. there is a site where someone seems to have gotten their hands on a ton of adult films from the 70's and released them in 4k. If this is the stuff that he's referring to, it's not upscaled, I'm old enough to remember seeing those movies, they were actually released on film, I remember seeing the film reels sold that you would watch using a projector and screen. With these the guy, or maybe girl, is scanning them and digitizing them.
