    I used MakeMKV to rip a track off a DVD, but it's incorrectly flagged as progressive.

    Is there a way to flag it as interlaced without having to re-encode it? I've tried MKVToolnix's header editor but it doesn't seem to have helped.

  2. I think MakeMKV nowdays flags all NTSC DVDs as progressive with 3:2 pulldown and vfr. Which would be okay for (soft) telecined content, which at least mordern DVD are usually.

    I've tried MKVToolnix's header editor but it doesn't seem to have helped.
    Did you set:
    1. 'Video field order' to the correct value?
    Code:
    0: progressive;
    1: interlaced with top field displayed first and top field stored first;
    2: undetermined field order;
    6: interlaced with bottom field displayed first and bottom field stored first;
    9: interlaced with bottom field displayed first and top field stored first;
    14: interlaced with top field displayed first and bottom field stored first

    2. the 'Video interlaced flag'
    not sure whether the header editor allows to also change the frame rate

    If not you probably need to either first remux the file (while chaning the frame rate) and then change the headers.
    Or remux the file and add the appropriate command line switches to let the muxer know the content is interlaced. You probably want to additionally set the field-order and make sure you specified the 'Default duration/FPS' in the proper way. -> read https://mkvtoolnix.download/doc/mkvmerge.html (and search for the options where interlace appears in the description)
