Blackmagic 12K URSA Mini Pro Camera released! The cinema camera is the world's first 12k camera and it is equal to IMAX quality. It is also actually cheap for its kind of camera when compared to others in Hollywood. It will have huge ramifications for IMAX, cinemas and the death of the old school 35mm film camera. Here is a video you need to watch to understand how HUGE this really is!

  3. It's not "HUGE." Blackmagic will be used on indies and low budget shows. IMAX, major Hollywood films, are not going to give up their reliable Arris and Reds for this. The specs are impressive for only 10 grand. (body only)

*Yawn* It's not the camera that makes great art, it's the person behind it!

While I agree, a camera like this would be great for unscripted content, like if they used it for sporting events or even low budget indie movies. Imagine the Blair Witch project done with this camera or even something with a bigger budget like Rocky or Jaws.

I can even see someone doing high end weddings with a camera like this, I know someone that spent close to 100 grand on their wedding and the photographer/filmographer was about 20 large by himself, though in all fairness, you have to see the production values and photography, that guy was a pro in every sense of the word.

I think there's a big market for something like this, streaming video is growing and growing and growing, maybe a couple of film students just out of college that want to start their own web based episodic show, put their savings together, buy a camera like this and make a name for themselves.

    Completely worthless robot-voice generated video.
I'd bet money the "12K" is fudged in some way, marketing gimmicks. math is an art.
Always ask yourself with cameras: where's the shortcut?
If you don't see one, look harder.

  9. There's an interesting angle on it here:

A combination of awe, circumspection and still too much mystery.

I have no idea what you are referring to, but you look through Blackmagic's website, you will find 12K RAW sources straight from the camera, nothing "fudged" nor any "marketing gimmick", this is the real deal.
