  1. I have been successfully burning home videos on DVD -R media for my family but have been running into compatibility problems. In one instance, I have a sister with a brand new Apex DVD player, which won't play the DVDs. The same DVD's play in other Apex machines, so we just went the route of returning the unit and buying a different brand, which we haven't gotten yet.

However, my brother has an older Sony (a S550D), which will not play my DVD -R's either, but will play (with some trouble) DVD-R's that someone else burned for him.

My question is, I am assuming that it is a problem with the media. However, is it at all possible that it is a problem with the burner? Can the burner make a difference? (It's a Sony DRU510A, firmware 1.0f)

I'm using both TDK and Verbatim -R media.

    TDK:
    Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:TDKG02000000]

    Verbatim:
    Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:MCC 00RG200 ]
