  1. Attached is a sample pic. The red part of the tape is touching/grinding the video drum, I had to remove it. Is this a normal occurrence or is this a sign that something is wrong with the video drum like out of alignment?

    No, it's certainly not normal. More likely the cassette compartment is misaligned or something is bent/broken and allowing the cassette to come too close to the drum.

  3. I have been getting a lot of video dropouts from my 8mm tapes. Could this the source of my problem? I have attached a clip.
