    Is your PC overclocked?

  4. Just says somethign along the lines of ffmpeg.exe had caused an error. Yes its overclocked, I know what your getting at have reset the speeds to stock and am trying again.

  5. Returned clock speeds back to stock and it hasnt crashed yet, Although this isnt really an acceptable fix... I guess ill see how far i can go and keep ffmpeg stable.

The bottom line is that ffmpeg runs @ 100% CPU (or at leat it should do).... So a lot of CPU heat is generated. It is the same for any video encoding. Video encoding is an extreamly CPU intensive process.... see: SVCD2DVD Used as the application to stress test overclocked/super cooled PCs...

If you are overclocking make sure that you have the right cooling for video encoding!

  9. Have you tried the "logs" folder under where you installed the program?

    Have Now thanks

I successfully converted this film yesterday, then found it was out of sync, so I corrected that and re-ran it again, and it crashed during the second AVI. It was my usual errors message FFmpeg has caused an error. that I get most days.

I'm not overclocked at all, as was the OP. so if anyone can help I'm grateful

  11. Overclocked or not, do you have a way to monitor your CPU temp? Dust will cause overheating in any system if it sets up in the right place.

running at 60c to 63c while processing a movie, so I've stripped it down & vacuumed all the dust off of the processor cooler, its now at around 48 ish so it looks like it could well be heat

It looks like it has yes, managed to convert 2 films now that crashed previously, so the lower temps have fixed it.

I had the same problem recently and thought it was the video gods giving me a streaming binge addict virus.
I need to update because I am still using Vista on an old HP D6 lappy!
I used reasoning. Like who did I digitally sleep with recently?
I had recently had a Mozilla update, Adobe update, some download hack that gave me Chrome again that I failed to advance download and somehow I had to re-add my video downloader add-on.
I had used a few times the System Restore when bizarre things happened.
This time I just uninstalled Chrome and then set up the re-install of Mozilla then uninstalled Mozilla and then completed the Mozilla install. When install was complete, Mozilla prompted me that ooo lah lah you just installed me all new can I refresh some more before we hang out? I got all refreshed then re-installed the bad*ss Ad Block Plus (ABP) and my video downloader add ons...

It got rid of that annoying warning dialog that ffmpeg.exe has stopped box that before hand kept popping up as I x'ed out over and over!
