    Which is the best version to convert to mpeg2? Is the latest version evaluation only? Is 12a the only free version?

    The latest version does pretty well. It does include the time-out but usually a new beta is released around that time. I keep a copy of version 12a installed for those in-between times. There is no problem having more than one version installed. Just put them in different directories and create shortcuts to each. The batch features are much easier to use in the later releases.
