Hi Def software to watch movies on PC

What various types of programs can I use to watch Hi Def DVD movies on my PC.
I am using Cyberlink's PowerDVD Ultra but don't like it much because when watching from PC to my LCD tv in Clone mode it freezes up.

You could change your video settings so that the TV is used as a actual monitor and not a "clone".

An alternative is WinDVD.

Both make use of hardware acceleration if you enable it in the settings

I now have WinDVD 9 with HD and Blu-Ray support on it's way.
My TV is about 15 Ft. from my computer so it makes it hard to see when using the mouse if I enable the tv as my primary screen and disable my pc screen.
Maybe the not being able to see it is an old age thing. haha.

What graphics card have you got? Are you using the latest drivers for it? Do your PC monitor and TV run happily at the same resolutions and refresh rates? The newer nVidia Geforce graphics cards (certainly series 7 and 8 ) allow you to run two screens independently of each other (e.g. different resolutions and refresh rates provided you have enough memory on the card).

Not sure if the latest VLC will handle your Hi-def movies but might be worth a look.

I've got an ATI 2400 HD Pro, using an HDMI cable to my lcd tv.
All drivers are up to date.

I should also add that I just got an email from Cyberlink regarding the PowerDVD Ultra program I have been using and how it freezes up when using the clone mode.
They have informed me that they are aware of this issue and are working on a fix for it.
My next option is to try WinDVD 9 and see if I can use dual monitor.

I actually meant as a 2nd "monitor". The ATI software should give you the option of cloning, setting the TV as primary monitor, or setting the TV as a secondary monitor. Either of the last two options should solve your problem.

I have tried the tv as a primary but it is about 15 ft from my computer desk so it is kind of hard to see when making adjustments in the options menu but I have found a way of doing it which is much easier on the eyes.
I just extend my desktop and use my mouse to move the program to the tv side and move it back when making options adjustements.

In other words, you have it set as a secondary monitor (or dual view).
