VOB isn't a video format as such - it's just a part of a Video DVD taken out of context, and was/is not meant to be played as a file at all. If you for some reason have VOBs with no Video DVD structure (.ifo, .bup & cetera) extract the mpg out of the VOB with VOB2MPG. But i doubt neither xbox nor PS3 will play it without running some media center software (=hacked/modded hardware). The chances are much better with a complete DVD-bacjup on DVD-R.

    Hello
    I want to know :
-Is there a dvd player that it can read vob file from HD external?
I'm looking for this because when i copy the dvd movie i used to ripped it on PC (so i have vob file).
Any-dvd made 2 folder AUDIO and VIDEO, in VIDEO i have all vob file.
So instead to copy the files on dvd i want to use the hd and connect it on a dvd-player with usb port.
I prefer don't make any modification to the file that any-dvd done....
I think the only solution for me is a media-centre isn' it?
I think about xbox360 o ps3, but some friend told to me that they can't read a dvd-copied on these machine only
the original movie, is it correct? Or someone can do it?
The dvd players that have the usb port can solve my problem?
    bye-bye

My std DVD player reads (and plays) VOBs if I write them as data files on a CD or DVD, so I'd guess there are DVD players with USB ports that'd do the same with VOBs on HDD.
But I see one problem - A movie can be made up of up to 8 or 9 VOB files - you won't get contionous playback of a whole movie if you go by it as you intend - or does AnyDVD merge all VOBs into one? If so, they have to be <= 4 GB alltogether, as the HDD has to be FAT32 formatted (and FAT32 can't handle files > 4 GB).

Your friends are talking nonsense ...

Verbatim dvd+dl currently running on xbox360 fine .
    Ps2 slim , fine
    Ps2 old , some issues

Ps3 ... better ask someone with one .

    ---

External hard drives must have there own power supply , and be formatted using fat32 .

Xbox360 , using external hard drives , abilities restricted to pictures and music , not video .

My HD is FAT32 and i copy the dvd without any compression so the entair folder is about 5 o 6Gb but every single file vob are max 1 or 2 GB.
The problem for the FAT32 is file superior to 4 GB but is not my case...
Do you know any good player with usb port?
