  1. is there a way to download the subtiltes that are generated by youtube?

    1. 1st anyway possible, just any text TXT form will do.

    2. SRT form which will be the ultimate

    i just downloaded youtube sub downloader and installed it. but this was not the one i was looking for. It just downloads the custom made subs. I meant the machine generated subs from WAV file or its own sound. you can say speech recognition way, sometimes recognition is bad and sometimes ok. i do not want the custom made translation that is normally written in a different lingo.

  4. youtube-dl.exe was so good. i cant believe it

    but i need to learn few other command lines that i cant find from --help

    AA=youtube-dl.exe --write-auto-sub --sub-lang de --sub-format srt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxx
    BB=youtube-dl.exe --write-auto-sub --sub-lang de --sub-format "srt" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxx

    * --sub-format FORMAT Subtitle format, accepts formats preference, for example: "srt" or "ass/srt/best"

    AA= doesnt work, it only makes vtt sub format
    BB= doesnt work, it only makes vtt sub format

    CC=change vtt to srt

    Subtitle Workshop 2.51 reads the timeline only from CC=, which is important
    Subtitle Workshop 6.0 doesnt even read any from CC= except for 1 line.

    vtt kind of looked like srt
    now i think vtt is some kind of sub format that Subtitle Workshop cant do.
    and youtube-dl.exe cant convert vtt to srt

    i just found out vtt is WebVTT format

    11. youtube-dl.exe --download-path "m:\my dir"
    22. youtube-dl.exe --config-location path

    where can i find the commands like 11.?
    how can i make 22. work? how does the config file look like?

  5. If you need subtitles in srt format, try to obtain them at keepvid. You don`t need to use program, web version is able to take them.

  6. keepvid kind of worked but i still need a better converter, i think it wants subs, and not the caption kind of subs.
    keepvid's srt result

  7. WebVTT can easily and quickly be converted to SRT using this handy little app. It's been a while since I used it and one place I saw said this is how you do it:

    It’s very easy, just download the webvtt files, and then download the application, drag your webvtt files to the application, and everything could be ok.

  8. WebVTT2SRT.zip 's result was a little worse than keepvid, but the error consistency was exactly the same as keepvid

    keepvid can remove <anything> a little better than WebVTT2SRT.zip.

    Subtitle Workshop can remove this form [anything] in the text line
    now how can i ask Subtitle Workshop to remove all <anything>'s?

    i think i understand where the conversion difficulty comes from
    caption shows one word at a time ... one by one, while
    subtitle shows a whole sentence at a time.

    WebVTT2SRT.zip 's result is below

  9. the error consistency was the key to get this working

    i replaced < with [<
    i replaced > with >]
    then
    i replaced -->] with -->
    then
    i ran the sub work's F10 that could remove anything inside []

  10. Can you post a link to the video in question? There's got to be a simpler way.

  11. i havent fully stuided two results made by keepvid.com website and youtube-dl.exe
    AA=keepvid.com website
    BB=youtube-dl.exe + WebVTT2SRT.zip

    it seems that BB= produced the better TRANSLATED vtt han AA=.
    the translation "seemed" to be better, based on my 2 minutes of reading the language

    >post a link to the video
    do you mean i copy

    https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/384018-is-there-a-way-to-download-the-subtiltes-th...ted-by-youtube

  13. youtube-dl.exe --write-auto-sub --sub-lang de --convert-subs srt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cu0V7tdj6Ak

  14. --convert-subs srt worked well, with supplying ffmpeg.exe in the same directory, thanks for the finding.

    my own question about which one was a better translator or converter ? keepvid or youtube-dl.exe
    the question itself was wrong, both were correct because the speech recognition turnd out that it depended on the time of downloading.

    another question about vtt is vtt is caption which is quite different than movie subtitles.
    i need to move words around a lot to make good correct subs, now the time lines are bugging me, i need a pure TXT output as well. so that i can do the whole editing fast. using sub workshop's CONTROL+K combining command has a limit but not so bad.

    what is the independent ffmepg.exe subtitle conversion command from vtt to srt?

  15. But with txt you lose the times? Not very useful, IMHO.

    Try opening the srt in Subtitle Edit -> Tools -> Merge short lines
