  4. The site said processing, without any mention of lossless. Assumed it must of re-encoded.

Is clever Ffmpeg-GUI a cleaner option than TMPGEnc MPEG?
Read that TMPGEnc MPEG will make small changes at joins.

When searching MPEG-4 Visual (DivX 5) you only find results for MPEG-1/2.
Is MPEG-4 DivX 5 another format not native for all software listing MPEG-1/2?

    Seems confusing.

I want to keep the exact original format to maintain original file history.

Perhaps a mediainfo (text view) of the two files in question may help with further diagonsis

Seems like it's an .avi file rather than .mpg, perhaps you should rename it

  8. I was also wondering about that, are we certain that the file should be changed.
Once before I found problems the way this program and premier read file data?

    Rename the files to avi.
Did you try Avidemux to join (file/append) the files? There is a portable version here if you don't want to install it
    https://www.videohelp.com/software/AviDemux

If it's doesn't work post the actual files here

  10. Virtualdub replies cannot locate decompressor for 'DX50' (unknown).
Will try avidemux and extension change.

Lossless Cut works with the extension change to avi, best solution I have found.

    Thanks
