yeah I know they can coexist but I couldnt find mvtools only the mvtools2. the avisynth site that has em on it wont open for me. says it down or somethin.Originally Posted by poisondeathray
I think I already got all those from that thread. It was the requirements folder right? had all kinds of dll files in it?

Yes. There should be mvtools and mvtools2 in the folder (I think), and one of the mvtools has a MT branch (multithreaded) , that's the dll you want if you are getting that error. The dll has to be in the avisynth/plugins folder to autoload, otherwise you have to manually load it (including directory paths)

I guess I gotta keep lookin for mvtools then if I need em both. -
If you have mvtools.dll in the plugins directory, and you still get that error, you are using the wrong version (you are using the non MT version)
Go back to that plugins collection and find the MT version and replace the mvtools.dll
You have to close avsp or vdub and re-open it to let it autoload when you added new dlls to the plugins directory -

That's probably the same mvtools.dll that came in the zip file collection under the MT folder
Your most recent clip example is more like the intro example in terms of color, saturation, dot crawl, but has more noise in general and a lot more noise in a few frames (around frame 628 or so). You might want to filter those separately, because a heavy filter will destroy detail from the other frames. A lot of anime sucks for this. You almost have to go through each frame indivudually to check. -

oh and someone on doom 9 claims this is their script they use usually.
My usual script with variations:

Of course, you've run into one of the other reasons these functions sometimes won't work - having the wrong version of a needed DLL, and it's not only frustrating, but infuriating. For me anyway. Sometimes the needed information/version is given in theAviSynth Wiki if not in the included doc for the function or in a thread at Doom9. Anyway, if you haven't discovered it already, most (but not all) of the functions can be found here:

The problem I have with sharing my entire plugin folder is I have unzipped and modified some of the original files, and you're not supposed to distribute the filters without the full documentation and sources (in fact you're only supposed to download them from the original URL source). There could be errors and issues with versions etc... and many of the programmers get upset about this
My plugin folder is a complete mess. I recently started a new practice of backing up the original zip in a separate drive (I make copies if I upgrade versions) , and keeping the unzipped file in a labelled subfolder within the plugins directory so i know what version it is (some dll's have version identifiers if you right click it). I'm sure everyone has their own way of organizing things. So I do have unmodified backups of the newer original filters that I use within the last year or so, and I'm happy to upload the unmodified original zip of the versions I am using. I think the zip file collection from the AnimeIVTC thread has newer versions than the ones I am using , however.
And another link to filters to complement manono's link above:

the maker of that animeivtc also told me I had an autoload script with the extension avs and needed to make it avsi. that fixed the limitedsharpenfaster problem.
This is what I gave him to look at.

Well I gotta admit, this one turned out better than any of the scripts I tried messin with so far.

The only thing I really want out is the bits of noise around the japanese text and at the very end that fight scene you can see blocks/cubes pretty damn easily. Other than that its not too bad I guess. Ill get em out eventually when I feel like playing with it more. as for now, an entire week of reading and trials makes me want a small break lol.
anything else you would fix in it? -
Compare your script to the encoded file in tabs in AvsP. If the .avs looks much better then you know it was from the encoding & encoder settings
If the filtered .avs already has blocking and edge noise around the text, then use a deblocking filter , and other filters to get rid of that edge noise
I suspect it's a combination of both -
Yeah, thanks for all the help on all of that stuff.
I think now that I know how to use AVISynth at least, Id like to learn how to encode with h.264 instead of Xvid. I would prefer an h.264 video put into MKV with dual audio and soft subtitles.
Do you have any suggestions on freeware for making VOB into h.264? Handbrake does it but I get the feeling theres better ways to do it. Id like to encode my h.264 file on my own and use MKVMerge with the audio tracks and subtitles instead of have Handbrake encode and make it MKV for you. -
Just like there's a lot to learn about avisynth and filtering , there's a lot to learn about encoding and settings for different sources, and how encoders behave
You can trade off ease of use for customizability when using easy to use GUI's like handbrake. Anime requires different settings than live action. Different sources require different settings for best results. There's way too much to go over in 1 post. I can tell you , in general, most people use lower psy settings, lower AQ settings than default for "traditional" type anime, higher number of b-frames because anime is very compressible. But CGI type anime is different and highly detailed, so you would use different settings.
You can start by reading the settings wiki, but they won't make much sense until you start encoding and reviewing and experimenting to learn how the settings work.
http://mewiki.project357.com/wiki/X264_Settings
The new megui builds (see the doom9 megui patched thread) are better now, and is probably the most comprehensive solution, but also the most confusing to use. Handbrake, ripbot264 are easier to use, but don't allow for full control. Experiment with the GUI's until you find one you like. The command line is easy to use now with the preset system in x264
