  1. Hey I just get a Video8 camcorder from the 80s and I only have Hi8 tapes, not standard 8mm. Is it OK to use them for standard Video8?

Why don't you try it and let us know, but most likely won't work - although it may ok if the tapes were recorded in a video8 machine, this do not have hi8 encoding

if you are referring to having only new hi8 tape to record on in a v8 cam the answer is maybe. v8 used metal-particle (mp) tape whereas hi8 could use mp or metal-evaporated (me) tape.

  4. It will work just fine, you just won't be getting the benefits.

I'm recording a Video8 signal onto a Hi8 tape. Not Hi8 signal on Video8 tape. It is an MP tape.

mp tape works in both v8 and hi8 cams. should be no problem.
