hi im using hdvsplit to capture hd mini dv footage from my sony hdv video camcorder

when captured the files are .m2t files. What is best for me to do? leave them as mt2 files or converted them using my tmpgenc sw to another generic format that can be editing and played on most platforms such as hd mp4?

i ask since im not familir with .m2t files generally

HDV .m2t files are an odd ball. most are non-square pixels @ 1440x1080i that when converted to the usual square pixels becomes 1920x1080. HDV is easy to edit in it's native format for most editing software and should be kept that way until a final format is rendered out. to make the most easily playable videos converting to square pixel 1920x1080p25 is probably best.
