  1. I was using DVDFab to rip my DVDs, but it seems the newer ones just won't work without payment (and it's expensive!), but I tried Handbrake and it seems to be ripping and converting, though I'm not sure how to just get an .iso that I can use for archiving (since I may later convert it to different device formats).

Can Handbrake save DVDs (main movie) to .iso files uncompressed? Or is there another free (safe) program I can use?

DVDFab products have 30 days free trial. Once the 30-day trial expires, you can use free DVDFab HD Decrypter mode which contains part of the functionality of DVD Copy.
Btw, during 2017 Easter Deals, you can save up to 30% on dvd copy tool.

If you want a 1:1 copy with no re-encoding use MakeMKV. If you want to then reduce the size use Handbrake or VidCoder but it will re-encode. The MKV you make will be the same size as the DVD.

I'm not sure how much more I'm supposed to use the HD Decrypter than I am, I open DVDFab, it shows the "Try" window with HD Decrypter "Activated", I click Try then it opens the movie in Main Movie with "DVD Copy Trial Expired" in red, then clicking Start says either I have to buy DVDFab or use Nero/ImgBurn.

It just worked before. Now it doesn't. DVD Copy is not the same as HD Decrypter. I can't rip Main Movie anymore for some reason. Please explain what I'm doing wrong here.

Click on HD Decrypter and then within that program select main movie.

Just close the web page and HD Decrypter window should be there. Click ONLY on MAIN MOVIE (actually it should preselect this menu item) and you shouldn't get an expired notice, click on any other of the options and you will get an expired notice.

It stays on the same window: http://imgur.com/a/oPcbw

The only way I can get into DVDFab is to click "Try", which automatically starts opening the DVD: https://forum.videohelp.com/images/imgfiles/xNde5Rxh.jpg

This is after it's done opening: http://imgur.com/a/oPcbw

Strangely, today, after I click Start, it just starts copying. Maybe I had to click HD Decrypter THEN "Try"... wow that isn't intuitive at all. Honestly I don't know why I was getting an error that DVD Copy was expired or that it kept trying to open Nero or ImgBurn even though DVDFab was selected as the "burning" engine. But OK

OK it looks like I didn't realize it was "ripping" to a "folder" instead of .iso, which is what I need, but when I select to rip to an iso, it then says "Please specify path of Nero or ImgBurn first": https://forum.videohelp.com/images/imgfiles/oEG5Evoh.jpg

If I go and check Common Settings > Drives > DVD Write > Burning Engine, it has selected "DVDFab Burning Engine": https://forum.videohelp.com/images/imgfiles/1Hs7yXKh.jpg

It gives the same error no matter what I select there.

I earlier tried uninstalling DVDFab 10 and reinstalling DVDFab 9, and everything worked just fine, saved to iso no matter which of my DVDs I put in. When I'd reinstalled DVDFab 10, it then auto-selected to save to a folder which is why it worked, but then I'm not sure how to get that folder to convert into an iso file.

So how do I get DVDFab to rip DVDs in version 10? It just doesn't seem possible no matter what I do.

the free HD decrypter cannot save to iso file only the paid version can - https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/286111-how-do-you-make-an-iso-file-using-dvdfab-hd-decrypter

Guess I'll have to go back to DVDFab 9 then, because every DVD that failed in 10 worked in 9; not sure why.

    Im with you brother...

Same thing has been happing to me ever since DVDFab 10 was released.
I can no longer copy/rip DVD's to my pc for backup. Just keeps saying "trial version has expired".

However if I continue to use DVDFab 9, it works every time!
    I am using DVDFab 9 version 9.3.2.1
That seems to be the latest update to DVDFab 9.
I have not been able to find any other solution other than to just keep using 9.

On the DVDFab website it still list DVDFab HD Decrypter as FREE. It is on their "FREE STUFF" page of their web site.

I just now clicked their link to download it. Then installed it. It installs (DVDFAB 10.0.4.0). Tried to copy my DVD movie "Arrival". And got the same message again... YOUR TRIAL PERIOD HAS RUN OUT. YOU CANNOT USE THE REGISTERED FEATURE. PLEASE BUY THIS SOFTWARE.
    So I close DVDFab 10.

Now I open DVDFab 9, click X to close the first window, then click the START button on the next window, and it copies the DVD just like it suppose to and always has.

I have been using DVDFab HD Decrypter for years. I have never purchased the paid version of DVD Fab. I had no reason to, HD Decrypter did all that I needed. And I was very happy for this free software.

However now, it seems the developers have decided to not offer it as free anymore. With nothing on their web site stating this... ie, it is still listed as "FREE".
