    Hi,
mpeg and 4k files to edit, scrub frame by frame fwd and backward, adjust sound volumes, multi tracks for vid and audio, easy separation of original audio from vid, exposure controls.

ability to export the 4k as HD.

intuitive, easy to get up and running. I have used premiere pro CS6 so not a beginner as such, but only done simple work, lay in music track, fades etc. I dont want to pay subs else I might upgrade to cloud.

what prog would be best for 4k and mpeg editing ?

    Vegas Pro.

You might be able to get by with the Studio edition but it may not support 4K. Check it out.

You can do this stuff on the cheap, but need to learn the different utilities like AviDemux. AviDemux can transcode from 4K to HD, and it's free. Then you can edit the HD in any cheap editor.

"Intuitive" is the best description of Vegas. It's mostly used by wedding videographers. It's every bit as pro as Premiere.

Mpeg is my favorite editing codec too.

    You can also consider 2K.

    Hi,
sounds good, one problem the price I dont have $600 . blast !

I can stretch to £100 though , at expense of things screaming out to be fixed.

    Jeezus, it's $600 now?

Hey, man you're gonna have to go for the $100 softwares.

The options are getting depressing here lately. Learn AVIDemux.

    Hi,
Catching up on my quest for an intuitive affordable video editing prog, I google AVIdemux and I am taken now to NCHsoftware Video Pad Video Editor with a free version for domestic use.

I try again and get sourceforge avidemux.

others I downloaded at the time are:-
Vegas Movie Studio 15 platinum trial 16aug2018
Video editor power director 16 trial 16aug2018
video editor magix movie edit pro plus trial 16aug2018

so these four and also avidemux and now also VideoPad video Editor...

I have 4K footage from my camcorder I wish to cut unwanted segements from then create a final 4K video file for playing on my PC.
I also need do de-interlace a few recordings to see if I can lose the haircomb effect that way.
I have .mpg files to edit and save as .mpg
I have mp4 files to edit and save as mp4 or mpg, whatever is best.

Is AVIdemux the one to do all this for me ?

    Cheers

You might look at Vegas Movie Studio 16 Platinum for improvements over Vegas Movie Studio 15 Platinum: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/gb/vegas-movie-studio/?_oB=movie-studio-platinum

The web page for Vegas Movie Studio 16 Platinum indicates that it can edit 4K and can export 4K XAVC S video and it supports HEVC import and export.
