    I have a Sony BDP S6700 by default is set to region free am trying to play a region 0 disc yet when I hit the play button to play item it keeps telling me This operation is currently prohibited for this disc being a novice am at a lost has its a multi region unit can some offer me any reason why this problem and can it be corrected thanks P

    Maybe it's meant for dvd and not blu-ray playback for region free.Is the disc a dvd or blu-ray?

    its just a standard DVD disc plays ok on Samsung and panasonic players

    Region Free Sony !!. Now that would be a rare beast.


    But if it is a modified unit then that mod could have been broken by a firmware update

    Try a Region1 disk >> Region0 disks are quite rare but should certainly not fail. If the Region1 disk also fails you have a dead machine that requires repairing.


    But you can out the hardware hacks on this site as there might be one for the dvd side of this player (Do so at your own risk)

    SONY are notoriously difficult to make region and zone free. There is/was a company in Melbourne (Australia) that did a physical hardware hack but not sure if they are still in business. Don't ever update over internet a SONY or for that matter any region or zone free player, guaranteed to break the hack.
