Anyone know anything about this? First I've heard of it.

  2. Tons of information is available on SOPA and PROTECT IP. Ars Technica and The Register cover it a lot. Just yesterday:

    http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2011/11/strange-bedfellows-nancy-pelosi-ron-pa...opposition.ars

    The EFF too:

    https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2011/11/week-internet-censorship-sopa-uae-chile

On a related note, one of the most astonishing stories was about Warner Brothers issuing DMCA takedown notices for material that they never even downloaded to verify was theirs. Just because the name was similar to one of their products:

    http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2011/11/warner-admits-it-issues-takedowns-for-...-looked-at.ars

There are even stories about Hollywood issuing take down orders for videos that they themselves uploaded to Youtube as promotional material! And about the RIAA including unauthorized copyrighted material on their web pages about the illegality of using copyrighted material without authorization!

    Some interesting statistics from google:

more than half (57%) of the takedown notices it has received under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act 1998, were sent by business targeting competitors and over one third (37%) of notices were not valid copyright claims
    http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20090315/2033134126.shtml

Of course, that's not referring specifically to the MPAA and RIAA members.

Obviously, Hollywood cannot be trusted to censor the internet or anything else.

  4. And CNET today:

    packet-inspection/

Apparently, SOPA is now requiring deep packet inspection and blocking by IP address!
