  1. Hello!

    I have been recording sports events off DVB/IPTV for last decade. Now I have been trimming out different clips in order to make highlights compilation later. My question is whether I should deinterlace them (with AviSynth) before feeding them to video editing software (Davinci Resolve) or not?

    There are two types of videos and I have attached them to this post:
    1) 576i SDTV (2010-2018)
    2) 1080i HDTV (since 2018)
    Image Attached Files

  2. I would always bob deinterlace interlaced content, before doing any further editing.
    If interlaced output is needed I would (curse the reason that forces me to use interlacing and) just reeinterlace at the end of the filtering.

  3. It depends on what you plan to do with the video and your final delivery format.

  4. My final format would be:

    576i -> 720p 16:9
    1080i -> 1080p 16:9

    All of them would be for later usage in Youtube, Facebook etc.

  5. Then your best option is to QTGMC() in AviSynth.

    576i25 to 720p50
    1080i25 to 1080p50

    If QTGMC is too slow, Yadif(mode=1) is a faster but lower quality option.

    What are your thoughts on the quality difference between AVISynth/Yadif verses Virtual Dub/Yadif 50fps (ie VD internal deinterlace filter)?

    I haven't done any filtering in VirtualDub in many years. So I don't know if there's any significant difference between AviSynth Yadif and VirtualDub Yadif. I hardly use Yadif anyway. Just occasionally when I'm working on some other slow filters and want to speed up the processing. I'll usually switch to QTGMC for the final processing.

  10. Yes, bwdif is better than yadif and about the same speed. bwdif doesn't leave little "droppings" all over the picture.
