Capturing fails after 3 seconds

When i'm downloading from my digital videocamera (Canon XM2) to the pc the capturing only works for 3 seconds. After those 3 seconds the program stops working. The same problem with the following programs, Adobe premiere pro, Pinnacle studio 8, MGI videowave 3, Windows Moviemaker. I have already downloaded and installed the latest drivers and uploads for the firewirecard, but it didn't help.
Anybody who knows how to solve this problem.

is firewire enabled in camcorder settings? is your camcorder turned on? is the firewire cable plugged in on both sides? have you looked at the windows device manager to see if there are any conflits (yellow exlamation point sign) [start -> control panel -> system -> hardware tab -> device manager]? these are some easy solutions that are quite often missed.
