I have tried a lot of things.
I ended up using another PC to record the audio of each show I wanted, as it streamed, which is the very last option, and it takes the full length of each show.
I have so far got 7 shows, but now RTE site won't load properly on the PC anymore, I guess a clearing of history may helpm but want to back it up first.
I stumbled upon this thread/forum purely by accident. It would be great if it was possible. I am reading over the thread but it is a big one.
what show are you looking for. i have downloaded clips fom joe duffy, whole show if i want, mp3 files

    Examples

    https://www.rte.ie/radio1/liveline/podcasts/#103070295

  2. Hi,

Yep, that is EXACTLY what I mean..
    How did you do it?
I am trying to get a few of the plays and short stories from different programmes.

I have tried Chrome, firefox and IE. It was working a week ago, but now they all just show the stripped site and just text. I'm sure there is something blocking it, maybe F-Secure (I don't have much else running on the PC), as I have disabled ublock Origin and that made no difference.

I am currently using atube catcher to download/record and then editing in audacity.

Edit - This is how the site looks on my pc in any browser - https://snag.gy/nimcK9.jpg

I mean i just searched in google for rte. google liveline for example. the site opens https://www.rte.ie/radio1/liveline/ see programme archive on the right. click podcasts https://www.rte.ie/radio1/liveline/podcasts/ or https://www.rte.ie/radio1/podcast/podcast_liveline.xml to see the actual mp3 link. Click the link of the item you want and the download is an mp3 file

    Ahh, I get you, thanks.
unfortunately most of the shows I am looking for don't have podcast links. They do have archived shows though, but have to listen to the full thing.

if you can download it as mp3 you could edit it with audacity. i have often done that with interviews

I can only record it. Can't download unfortunately, or figure a way to do it. Some of the shows are almost three hours, so as you can guess, recording is a pita.
I have been able to access the site properly in the past, so if it comes to it, I would wipe the PC and reinstall windows/linux (I know, it won't be needed, but I'd be willing to do it).
I've just not been able to download a direct link, I would/will have queued them all and left the PC on if and when I figure out how.
In the meantime, looks like recording is the only way to go for now. I'm using atube catcher.

You can use hds or hls with streamlink.
    Code:
    https://feeds.rasset.ie/rteavgen/getplaylist/?format=json&id=11000831
    Code:
    streamlink "hds://http://cdn.rasset.ie/hds-vod/audio/2019/0219/20190219_rteradio1-latedate_cl11000831_11005160_261_/manifest.f4m" best -o "20190219_rteradio1-latedate_cl11000831_11005160_261_.flv"

  16. Is that streamtransport?

I've looked at software, loads of it. That rings a bell, I think I used it to download from Brightcove about 5 years ago.
I downloaded your link, but nothing appears as new. (Not a good sign). - But don't mind that.
Streamtransport appears in my programs along with loads of others I haven't uninstalled but I recocognise that name. I am almost 100% that is the one I was looking for. Thank you, even if it doesn't work.

That has to be it. Hopefully.

streamlink <<<---- (not whatever you've mentioned).

The forum software here links to the forum page for the program.

I've already verified that it works with your link, so it doesn't not work.

It's not necessary to re-encode the file (unless you have a specific reason).

Just swap the container from ismv to mp4. It takes about 30s and preserves the original stream quality.
    ffmpeg -i FILENAME.ismv -codec copy -f mp4 -y FILENAME.mp4

    Does ffmpeg -i SOURCEFILENAME.ismv FINALFILENAME.mp4 reencode it?

    ffmpeg -i FILENAME.ismv -codec copy -f mp4 -y FILENAME.mp4 works fine and quickly

Yeah, it does (I don't know the specs), hence the lengthy process.

-codec copy just repackages the stream in a different container, so it's fast and lossless.

  23. Lads would someone be able to explain to me how to download this radio programme please?

    https://www.rte.ie/radio/radioplayer/rteradiowebpage.html?rii=b1_11011742_1154_17-03-2...2D03%2D2019%5F

I've managed to get the rtmpe url from
    Code:
    https://feeds.rasset.ie/rteavgen/playlist/?type=radio&itemid=11011742
which I observed in the network viewer as the stream loaded.
I've tried using youtube-dl, ffmpeg, streamlink, and rtmpdump but just cant seem to get it working. Running linux by the way.
Any info would be much appreciated as I'd like to be able to download this programme as well as another one.

    Thanks!

If You want to use only rtmpe use TubeDigger

    Otherwise, use IDM

The method described here, using streamlink with hds or hls, can also be used:

    2) In firefox press f12 to open the developer console
    3) Go to the Network tab in the developer window
    4) select the episode and then press play
    5) watch the console and select one of the lines when your episode is playing, on the RHS you will see request URL eg https://vod.rte.ie/rte/vod/RTE_Prod_-_Prod/69/348/IP9706/M3646081-1541685509261.ism/da...iry=1603350000

    8) this can be played in VLC or mp4 format can be extracted from it (google it eg ffmpeg - https://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-formats.html#mov_002c-mp4_002c-ismv)

    hope this helps
