I have some 8mm tapes recorded on a Canon ES50A camera that need to captured to my HD. I have the original camera and I can view the tapes through the camera's viewfinder. The problem is the A/V output on the camera has quit working. I was told by a local company a Digital 8 camera should read the tapes just fine. I have a Sony DCR-TRV130 digital camera that records to Hi8 tapes. When I insert the 8mm tape (from the Canon camera) into the Sony camera, all I can see is a blue screen. I also get a message on the Sony camera that a 8mm tape is there. Is there a setting somewhere on the Sony I am missing to get the Sony to read the tape?

The local company was misinformed. According to a quick Google search, your camcorder will NOT play back Hi8/8mm tapes. Only certain Digital8 models will play back Hi8/8mm tapes. The TRV-350 is among them.

Thank you Brainiac for your reply. Would you mind telling me what "text" you entered for the Google search? I did a search and could not find any info. Thanks again.

All the early Digital8 models 1998-2000 played Video8/Hi8

Later only the higher end models had that feature.
