I'm running an old G3 iMac and trying to convert AVI files to VCD. Everything seem to be running fine up until the end of the process. At the end I get a bunch of errors and am left with a file tha seems to be the right size but blank. I unchecked the Altivec box and everything seems right. Here are the errrors,

The VCD authoring seems to fail on the spaces in your filename. Try the authoring tool on the .mpg file (after fixing the name), re-doing just the final step.

    Case,

I took out the spaces and re-did the file (convert to VCD in FFMPEGX). This time it didn't error out. I ended up with a .BIN file a .CUE file and an .MPG file. The MPG wuldn't play through MPlayer, VLC or QuickTime though. I burned the BIN/CUE combo with Toast 6 and tried to play it on two machines that I have played VCDs on before. One couldn't read it and my Philips just about had a nervous breakdown (grin). I'm confused....

I have also tried the straight (non-FFMPEGX) conversion with the same result. I'm sure SOMEBODY else has run into this problem. How'd you get around it?

Does the AVI play in QuickTime Player? 'Cause if it doesn't, then Toast's conversion will fail, as well as ffmpegX's (with Decode with Quicktime selected).
Is your AVI XviD video with mp3 audio? Do you have the DivX Decoder component for QuickTime installed?

It won't play in QuickTIme but plays fine in MPlayer and VLC. I tried unchecking "Decode with QuickTime" and got good video but no audio. And, yes, the Toast burn wouldn't play even though Toast didn't give me any error messages.

What information does VLC give about the video? It does indeed sound as if you probably don't have the necessary Quicktime components installed to play the audio (possibly AC3 audio?).

Well, I added the DiviX QuickTime component and now the AVI plays fine in QUickTime. I'm re=ripping in FFmpegX right now so we'll see what happens. Both video and sound are playing fine in QT so, I hope that solves the problem. I really appreciate all the help, gang!

Every thing worked perfectly this time! Too cool!!

Question: I noticed that using "Decode with QuickTime" took about twice as long as before. Now that I have the QuickTime DivX package installed do I still have to go thru QuickTime?

The QuickTime DivX package only fixed things when going through QuickTime. Other conversions should give the same result as before.
