I have the Canon Ixus 220HS which makes h264 1080p 23.976 videos which Id like to use in an authoring program like Adobe Encore. But it keeps transcoding it even though its exactly the same as the projects settings.

Ive included a screenshot of Gspot of the original canon video:

And this is Gspot of the video re-encoded using the Adobe Encoder which makes the video compliant and doesnt need transcoding but as its been re-encoded, id like to avoid that:

Is there a program which can correct flags or gop information in the original video file like you could with dvd video files?

    Any help appreciated.

  2. It may be the audio that needs reencoding. Demux the file and see if it will pass the video alone.

don't use gspot, it hasn't been updated in years. get and use mediainfo in text mode.

  4. Many Canon point & shoots, and DSLR models shoot baseline@L5.0 - not blu-ray compliant . You might be able to "patch" the header with h264 level editor or similar utilities to "trick" Encore to allow pass through if the bitrate is low enough (<40Mb/s) . Some point & shoots shoot low enough bitrate (30-35Mb/s), but most DLSR's don't

Try remuxing to m2ts with TSMuxer.

Or demux the audio, open it with an audio editor, save as a regular wav file. ("sowt" can be problematic on windows)
Then remux the video with your new wav file in m2ts container with TSMuxer.

Fyi, mediainfo is better suited for finding information about h264.

Attached mediainfo text file of the video file, hope that helps.

I just demuxed with tsmuxer, but I dont think its doing the fps field properly. It says:

When I import the video (no audio) to Encore it thinks its 25fps.

  7. Format profile : Baseline@L5.0

As mentioned above - this is a problem - even if the actual stream doesn't meet those specs, this "label" will cause encore (or any authoring program) to re-encode

@poisondeathray: Any way to trick or rewrite it?
@Island_Dweller: I remuxed to m2ts, but it crashes Encore when importing it!

you've got enough bitrate that re-encoding shouldn't be too hard on the quality as long as you keep the output bitrate high. patching most likely will just result in the player accepting the video but not actually being able to play it.

I haven't tested it from this camera, but you can try a level editor. It has to be L4.1 or lower for blu-ray

You can try this patched ffmpeg build as well

Another one is h264info (but this is older program, doubt it will work)

@poisondeathray: Had a go at those utilities. Changing the profile didnt work sadly. Tried from profiles 4.1 to 1.

Well there was a chance it might work for this camera (patching won't work for Canon DSLRs because the bitrate is too high for blu-ray, but this bitrate for your camera should be ok)

I'll take a quick look - Is this a sample from the same camera model? (you need to be signed in vimeo to download original file)

Just tested with Adobe Encore CS6 and it works in that! No transcoding needed! Yay!

Edit: Settings for project I used:

    Bluray
    NTSC
    1920x1080
    23.976
    Video bitrate: 35Mbps
    Dolby Digital.

I didnt play around with these so can probably alter them. Ill post back if any causes transcoding issues.

No longer seems to work. Either installing Quicktime broke it or an update to Encore. Dammit.
