    Hi,

    When I run "mplayer -vo dummy -identification <filename.mpg>", I don't think this is displaying audio information at least as compared to some of the examples I've seen. The source is a 8 mm camcorder and my ultimate goal is to burn from my camcorder tapes on to DVD whenever I figure out how to do that. I'm capturing directly from an Hauppauge PVR-350 card using
    $ cat /dev/video0 > test.mpg

    The captured file plays okay in mplayer and gxine.

    Playing test_exp.mpg.

    MPEG-PS file format detected.
    VIDEO: MPEG2 480x480 (aspect 2) 29.970 fps 6000.0 kbps (750.0 kbyte/s)
    SUB: Could not determine file format
    Cannot load subtitles: ./test_exp.txt
    ID_FILENAME=test_exp.mpg
    ID_DEMUXER=mpegps
    ID_VIDEO_FORMAT=0x10000002
    ID_VIDEO_BITRATE=6000000

    ID_AUDIO_BITRATE=0
    ID_AUDIO_RATE=0
    ID_AUDIO_NCH=0
    ID_LENGTH=599.50

    I've seen other examples that identified the audio as like mpeg 3 or something like that I think. What is my audio?

    I'm running Debian Etch.

    Thanks,
    Gary

    If you've already done the video capture and just want to create the DVD, I would suggest looking at ManDVD

    It's very....Nero-ish. The forum and the screenshots are in French, but it does offer the option of installing in English.

    (Sorry I don't have the answer to your audio question)

    I found a workaround to my question. I am using idvid from the tovid suite

    http://tovid.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page and it is reliable and well done.

    tekkieman: thanks for the pointer to ManDVD, it looks interesting.

    I use tovid. I should have remembered that.

    Sorry.
