  3. Not sure what you want to do, but may be OpenToonz (https://opentoonz.github.io/e/) does what you want,...

  4. Common lossless image formats would be a format like bitmap (.bmp) , or png

    What kind of drawing ?

    for lightweight - ms paint

more features - krita (paint), gimp (more for photo manipulation, but has many plugins), inkscape (vectors)

Which image drawing software will be good and easy for beginner?
Images will be low resolutions..around 128×128
So any pixel based image creation tool?

If you choose bmp, it will be 8bit uncompressed (large filesizes)

If you choose png, it will be 8bit lossless compressed (smaller filesizes)

.bmp and .png both are lossless formats
Then why bmp has large file size and png has low file size..

does png format's lossless compression algorithm is better then bmp??

    bmp is uncompressed (no compression)

png uses lossless compression. If you decompress png to bmp, you get the same thing as if you saved as bmp in the first place.

There are slightly different types of png compression , but all of them are lossless. png are slower to compress and decompress than bmp assuming you do not have transfer bottlenecks (eg. slow hard drive)

bmp is uncompressed format, there is no "compression algorithm" in it.

    Yes, that's what "LOSSLESS" means.

IMO, Good and simple are mutually exclusive with game engines. I would recommend using a known powerful standard, such as Unreal.

First you need to know what you need, I was touching Source engine, Spring Engine.
If you didn't know what bmp/png is, then you'll have looong path to walk, it won't be "simple".

BMP can be compressed or not - usually RLE compression is used.

BMP can be compressed, but practically it's never used nowadays.

Pandy is right in that bmp can be either (losslessly) compressed or uncompressed, but I disagree - my experience is that the VAST majority of bmp files out there are totally uncompressed RGB, as can be verified by their filesize, as well as peeking into their contents.

Have you tried Scratch? Not exactly a gaming engine, but you can write simple games with it too.

  27. anything would work. Unless you are talking about smartphone apps, every single program should have either png or bmp as an option
