  1. i dont like to update my programs unless i really have to update them. i am still on vlc version 3.0.11 on one laptop and vlc version 3.0.12 on the other one

now 3.0.14 has been released and in the notes it said:-
This upgrades fixes security issues in the updater and in the application. Please update.

what do they mean by security issues in the application? vlc is just a media player and it plays videos. there shouldn't be any security issues

is it ok if i stay using my old versions?

it's only a video player.. but it can connect to the web (it has modules for streaming.. yt .. and even network protocols enabled, even if you don't use them).

So maybe you should update it ..

Don't worry about the updates mate. It is totally fine. I am using multiple outdated players without any problems for years.
