    Higher speed camera (so you can get clean stills).

    Take 1 still frame every couple of seconds, overlay it, fading away. If motion of foreground/background is an issue, mask out everything except the object and overlay that instead. May need to also create a duplicate video of the orig recording but with object isolated (all except item is masked), so that you can put that at the top of the stack of overlays (so it isn't ever partially obscured).
