Never had any problems with ffmpegX until one of my harddrives crashed.
I've installed a new system on a new harddrive, new ffmpeg, new binaries, new quicktime mpeg2 component, just everything that was on the old harddrive.
When i want to convert a mpeg2, 16:9 into a Mpeg2 file with black bars it doesn't work anymore.
I use the DVD ffmpeg setting, but when i want to use the Decode with quicktime + letterbox option it fails.
I can only convert it when i don't use the quicktime option.

    HELP!

  2. update your MPEG2 component (go to apple site, enter your customer number and update it, it's free)

    actually Herve, he did
( see second line of his post).
Perhaps this would be better in the ffmpegx forum,
since it pertains to how ffmpegx works in converting the
    users file?

lastly, could the file itself be corrupted, since it maybe existed
on the hard drive that crashed?

Hello guys, thanks for the quick response. I don't think my component is corrupted because it was stalled on another harddrive, i was working with 4 drives, now only 3.
No i did not updated the mpeg component because it was always working fine. Maybe i do need an update and will try that one out.
Do any of you guys know if you can play the files that are made in Mpeg2 with DVD ffmpeg in Quicktime with the update?
It did'nt work with the one i had......
Also do you guys have any experience with the Toast 8 DVD Menu creator. Sometimes you see the Mpeg2 file in the window when i drag it in, but there are some who don't give a picture and i can't make a frame to set it as a menu button. I don't mean in the EDIT window, because that doesn't work, but i mean in the window where you can see all the files i've dragged in.

    Thanx, Bert

    Bert,
do any other files that are in MPEG-2 play fine in Quicktime?
do any other files you have made by ffmpegx mpeg-2 or not,
    play fine ?

Could the file your having trouble with become corrupted due
to the hard drive crashing, either because it was stored
    there or captured there?

Lastly, can you re-create the file from its original components
and then try to process that through ffmpegx?

My Quicktime doesn't wanna play any MPEG2 files anymore.
The files i made with ffmpegX last time are lost in the crash.

The file i wanted to convert was saved before the crash.
It was allready created by someone else.
When i converted it the last time it went OK.

It really makes no sense to me....
Maybe i forgot something when i re-installed all the applications again.

There you have it. If QuickTime Player will not play your source file, then ffmpegX will not convert it when Decode with QuickTime is activated. When you solve the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component issue, then ffmpegX will play nice again as well.

Why would you want to do that in the first place? 16:9 DVDs play fine on 4:3 screens, as a set top DVD player will add the black bars to the signal, when you tell the DVD player that it is connected to a 4:3 screen and you want to letterbox 16:9 content.

    Ok guys, thanx again.

I don't know if my MPEG 2 component is damaged, but i don't think so.
When i run ffmpegX with OSX 10.3.9 it works fine.
When i run it with OSX 10.4.11 it doesn't.
My version is from September 23 2004.
Apple says it still works with Tiger but it doesn't.
Think i really need a new one, any way if it's a younger version then the one i have.

Thanx for all the help again,

    Bert
