  2. Briefly, ffmpegX is a GUI front-end to a number of UNIX audio & video utilities. It will take a source file (.MOV, .VOB, etc.) & create (X)VCD or (X)SVCD disk images that you can burn to CD/DVD for viewing on a compatible player. You can also save the elementary MPEG-1, MPEG-2, & audio files from which the disk images are created if you wish.

    ffmpegX requires OS X. There's much more to this program, but that's it in a nutshell. Major (the program's author) is putting together a User's Guide, but until then there are some very knowledgeable people in this forum who can help you if you have specific questions (I'm not one of them. )
