I have a Panasonic AG-1970 and its been working fantatic. Today however, I noticed that the front power button does not work. If I push it when it is on it does not turn off. If I turn it off with the remote and insert a tape it automatically turns on (as it is suppoed to) When I eject the tape the unit stays on. If I press the power button it does not go off.
Not the end of the world but it appears that it only works on and off with the remote?

Any idea what could be causing the on and off button the the unit not to work?

Sounds like either the button is broken or the solder joint traces are broken.Since you asked what the issue is you don't know how to repair these issues so it will cost you a lot to repair.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.
