  1. Hello,

I'm faced to the following problem: I have a number of video files some of them are played on my TV, others - NOT.
I contacted the TV manufacturer (LG) and asked what requirements (i.e. resolution, codec, etc.) the video file must meet to play on TV.
    But had no response.
I wonder if anyone has encountered a similar problem?
Here is some example with feature of played and failed to play files:

    (1) Fail to play
    pavel@MISSURI:/media/pavel/SanDisc2$ ffmpeg -i slow_horses_s1e1a.mkv -hide_banner

    (4) Play fine
    pavel@MISSURI:/media/pavel/SanDisc2$ ffmpeg -i quicksand_s1e1.mkv -hide_banner
    Input #0, matroska,webm, from 'quicksand_s1e1.mkv':

    Thanks in advance.
    Sincerely.

  2. Your TV plays AVC but not HEVC. Not a huge mystery or surprise. Your AVC files are HD, your HEVC files are UHD. Different codecs, different raster sizes.

You didn't give a model number, but its capabilities are certainly listed in the manual and/or online.

  3. Likely your TV does not support HEVC (h.265), only AVC (h.264) . Files 1,2 are HEVC , Files 3,4 are AVC

The other possibility is UHD vs. FHD . Files 1,2 are 3840x2160, Files 3,4 are 1920x1080 .

  4. My TV is UHD, so the resolution shouldn't be a problem.
Is it possible while keeping the resolution, convert files 1, 2 to h.264?

  5. This file with FHD fails to play on TV, but I can play it on PC:
