  1. I've just found out that ED ZD Converter does not help solve the problem as the tags which are made by it can't be seen by the player. I am not even saying that the player can't read the tags. The player just does not see them and it uses the name of the file in the player's display instead of tags. I know it's true as when I remove tags from a song then the player can see the name of the song in the format like "Мне нравится.aac" which is the exact name of the file.
Thus, there are two issues to solve.
    1. To change tags from whatever they are to ID2v.3 (ID3.v1 ID3v.2.3) which can be read by the player.
    2. To change the tag encoding from whatever it is to UTF-8 which I believe the player will read correctly.
Which programs will solve those two issues? Of course the best option is to have one program solving these two issues.

    P.S.
What does this mean- ID2v.3 (ID3.v1 ID3v.2.3)? Which exactly tag is it as I can see three different types? Sorry to be so dumb.

    Code:
    ffmpeg.exe -i input.m4a -acodec copy -write_id3v2 1 output.aac
The write_id3v2 flag was found in the aiff muxer docs.
The player does not see this tag. I think the prob is in encoding.

  3. Could be your harware players player is not recognizing
    1. Unicode filenames (non Western text encoding)
    2. Tags on AAC

    https://www.fiio.com/m5
Note http://fiio.me/forum.php is chinese , seems hard to get support

More info on ID3 Tags which are usually for MP3s .. Apples tag only uses part of these tags do that is a problem
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ID3
    Look at Non-MP3-implementation and alternatives

try these tag editors (most of these work with flac m4a and mp3s, ymmv)
    1. mp3tag https://www.mp3tag.de/en/index.html
    2. tagscanner https://www.xdlab.ru/en/
    3. Tag & Rename (no support for AAC) http://www.softpointer.com/index.htm

Just an IDEA.. try editing the tag in APPLE ITUNES.. maybe that will work. after all it has the industry standard in aac tags that work with apple and android and windows

    ----
By the way on Android players all the aac files you uploaded play but fail when editing tag.. reporting aac format not supported.
m4a plays and tags visible. aac plays no tags... file name used
Still fiddling around with files... Transferring to windows to see any solution

    Have you tried
    1. updating firmware on the website? maybe they made a fix for it
    2. using the email address here? http://www.fiio.me/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=44608&extra=page=1

    Yes, I have.
I have the latest FW and I've even posted my request in a couple of more forums with FIIO reps there. The response is the same. They promised to fix the issue in the next FW update. But no ETA given.

I've found a song in .aac format where the player reads tags but can't play the file. The song was converted from flac to aac with EZ CD Converter. The song starts with a weird sound and then stops playing.
Could anybody tell the difference between those files? Why is the player able to read the tags and can't play the first file named "Tags" and can't read the tags but able to play the file named "No tags"?

Tags can be read but file not playable https://workupload.com/file/bRFQrjru
Tags can't be read but file playable https://workupload.com/file/u2RAUwY9
If the difference is found I think that will help solve the issue.

  9. Florian Mp3tag Developer

Mp3tag only supports APEv2 tags for tagging AAC files. AAC files don't have a tagging format specified, so already this is a hack.
I suggest wrapping those files in an MP4 container, so that you can make use of the tagging capabilities of this format.

This is probably the reason why taggers never supported aac files.. natively

I really appreciate your trying to help me out. Thank you very much. I owe you.
What (which progg) shall I use to wrap files to mp4 container and what will I have to change in mp4 format to get readable tags in M5?

m4a are compatible with M5 but instead of tags in Russian I have Chinese characters in tags.
