  1. Trying to convert a MKV with the MP4 H264 preset. But the actual encoding will not start.The program never stops preparing for enconding. I've attached a picture from the ffmpegX progress window.

    I'm running a MacBook Pro with 10.6.8 and 4 GB of RAM.

    Any ideas?

    The barber’s pole isn't indicative for preparing here. The program will show a regular progress indicator only when it can make an estimation of how long it will take AND how far in it is. As long as that hasn't happened, you will see the moving barber’s pole indicator. It is doing stuff. For some source files, the progress bar will stay like that all the way through the encoding. You may try clicking the “i” icon to see the log of what it is doing.
